His death was occasioned by a fall from his horse. The deceased was a native of Scotland, which place he left when quite a youth, destitute of a home, friends or money; but from economy, industry and perseverance, he had accumulated a handsome property, which he has left with a wife and two daughters, who were the delight of his soul, to mourn his irreparable loss. As a husband, he was kind and affectionate; as a father, loving and indulgent; as a friend, warm hearted and generous. His house has long been the welcome asylum of the wearied, and his hands were always extended to the needy. I speak of him not as a stranger, but as a friend and relative—one who has known him for years; and who has received from his generous hands, more than could be expected from a father. Not even a thought foretold his fate—but in a moment he was thrown from the summit of life and happiness, into the dark valley of Death. H. Colonel’s Island, Glynn County, Ga.
