SLOAN DIES SATURDAY Raleigh E. Sloan, 77, of Brunswick died Saturday at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Hortense with the Revs. R.C. Mathis and Thomas Barnard officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Twin Rivers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home in Jesup. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Surviving are his wife, Eliza R. Sloan of Brunswick; five daughters, Dale Weniger of Broxton, Gail Rowell of Hoboken, Susan Sloan of Brunswick, Amber Young of Waverly and Sabrina Sloan of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Ronald Sloan of Hortense and Stanley Sloan of Waycross; four stepdaughters, Nell Courson, Macy Ann Harrell, Kathy Robinson and Carmen Mathis, all of Hortense; two stepsons, Bill Causey and Wayne Causey, both of Hortense; 18 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 1515 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. He was a Brantley County native and a former resident of Hortense. He had resided in Brunswick for the past 15 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers Union Local No. 901 in Brunswick. He was a charter member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Hortense and a member of the Pine Haven Baptists Church in Brunswick. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
