SMITH, 69, DIES AT HOSPITAL Joseph Franklin Smith, 69, died at the Brunswick hospital early yesterday after an extended illness. Smith was a retired boilermaker and a member and deacon of the Ella Park Baptist Church in Camden County. He was a lifelong resident of Camden County. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Ruth Ferrell Smith, Waverly; four daughters, Mrs. A.D. Harrell, White Oak; Mrs. Newman Landis and Mrs. Jean Taylor both of Jacksonville; Mrs. Betty Jo Haddock, Philadelphia, Pa.; four sons, Joseph W. Smith, Waverly; Elmer B. and Verlin W. Smith both of Jacksonville, and Carl W. Smith, Orange Park, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Head, Waverly, Mrs. N.N. Crews, Brunswick,, Mrs. T.J. Newman, Blythe Island, Mrs. Maude Thigpen, Nichols, Miss.; two brothers, E.R. Smith, Lake City, Fla., W.T. Smith, Brunswick; 20 grandchildren. Funeral services under the direction of the Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with interment in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. The rev. Edward Hickox, the Rev. G.W. Bryant, and the Rev. John Peacock will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Wade Linker, Sheriff Willie Smith, Deputy Henry Berrie, Riley Harrell, Oscar Middleton and Weston Keene. Honorary: Eugene Wiles, Bud Clark, Abe Copeland, Burwell Atkinson, Perry Middleton, Richard Strickland, Ben Adair Lawrence Rozier, Earl Kelly, Frank Rozier, Elias Daniels; and Elmer Berrie. The family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The body will remain in the chapel of the funeral home until the service hour.
