She had been in ill health for a number of years, and her condition had been critical for the past several weeks. Miss Smith was born in Brunswick February 8, 1871, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Smith, and except for a short interval had resided here throughout her life. Her parents were prominent pioneer Brunswick residents. Mr. Smith was the second editor of the old Brunswick Seaport Appeal, one of the first newspapers ever published here. He served as editor of the weekly publication from 1869 to 1876. Miss Smith taught school at her home here for 38 years. Later she went to Quitman, where she taught for four years, and returning to the city she again taught and coached students; therefore in all she taught for a period of approximately 45 years. In her younger life Miss Smith was active in various local circles. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Episcopal church. Survivors include one sister, Miss Frances Smith, of this city; a niece, Mrs. Frank Stanley Herring, New York City; a nephew, Hansell Hall, of Milledgeville, a great-niece and a great-nephew. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Talbert Morgan, of St. Mark’s church, assisted by the Rev. T.L. Harnsberger. Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Grove cemetery. The following will act as pallbearers: L.J. Bennet, Frank L. Stacy, Dr. J.B. Avera, Bernard Nightingale, R.Y. Smith, Jr., Edwin Sherman. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Mortician Edo Miller.
