Glynn County police had identified the victim as John Charles Sumner, 21, of 1013 Ocean View Rd, Apartment #3, Sumner sustained massive head injuries. The accident occurred about 1:20am when Sumner mussed a curve and ran into a house on Postell Drive, police said. Sumner was taken to the hospital and transferred to Savannah Memorial Hospital where he died yesterday at 1:30pm. Sumner was a lifelong resident of Glynn County and was a 1978 graduate of Glynn Academy. He was a member of the Red Terror Football Team. He attended Brunswick Junior College and was employed by Sea Island Landscape. He was an Eagle Scout and held the Order of the Arrow Award. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Linda Forsyth and Step-father, Donald Forsyth, both of Freeport, TX; a sister Sherrill Sumner, Statesboro, a brother, Donald Forsyth; a step-bother John C. Forsyth, Jekyll Island, a step- sister, Mrs. Mary Alice Glenn, Darien; his grandmother, Mrs. Vera A. Taylor, Moultrie; and step-parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Redding of Valona. Services will be held Thursday at 11am in the chapel of Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev John Beckley officiating, Interment will follow at Palmetto Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bart Kahler, Craig Miller, Bert Kahler, Mark Biletzakov, Eddie Mock and Cayce Holloway III. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. N.M. Hamilton, Dayton Malone, James O. Bishop, Terry L. Reddick, Bennie Willis, Edward O’Connor, Cayce Holloway Jr., David Ketch, Robert H. Ray, Holt Todd, Rob Pharr, Kip Turner, Bridge Tender and personnel of F.J. Torras Causeway, employees of Sea Island Landscape Department and members of the 1978 Red Terror Football Team. The body will remain in the funeral home for services. The family will receive friend at the funeral home from 6pm to 8 pm Wednesday. Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
