DEWEY E. BLACK Mr. Dewey E. Black, 78, of the Ranger community died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999 at 1:40 a.m., following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on Sept. 18, 1920, a son of the late Aaron Clark Black and Myrtie Scott Black. He was a lifetime resident of Gordon County, a retired farmer, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by two sons, Previs Black and Grethel Van Black; a brother, Otto Black; and a sister, Maxine Mashburn. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Black of Ranger; three sons and their wives, Hollis Black of Ranger and Clarence and Linda Black and Tony and Susan Black, all of Calhoun; a daughter and her husband, Charlotte and Pat Young of Chatsworth; three sisters, Mozelle Thompson and Jewell Silvers, both of Calhoun, and Mable Correll of Ringgold; six grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and five step grandchildren. Funeral was Sunday, Feb.28 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home, with Dr. Melvin Biggs officiating. The White Graves Trio was in charge of music, and burial was in White Graves Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
