Mr. Black was born in Gordon County, Sept. 28, 1906, son of Mrs. Sallie Poarch Black and the late Chock Black. Mr. Black was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and was retired. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Edwards Black; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Davis of Savannah; two sons, Larry C. Black of Calhoun and Max L. Black of St. Charles, Mo.; five grandchildren, Teresa Black, Scott Black, Cress Black, Lisa Black and Matthew Davis; mother, Mrs. Sallie Black of Calhoun; four sisters, Janie McEntyre and Ann Frix, both of Calhoun Carrie Kardash of Baltimore, Md., and Georgia Mae Couch of Fitzgerald; five brothers, Conway Black, Sam Black and Edgbert Black, all of Calhoun, Ford Black of Plainville and Erwin Black of Dalton; nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Black were held Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. from Maple Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Graden Strickland, the Rev. John Allen and the Rev. Ray Brandon officiating. Pallbearers serving were Jim Mashburn, Willis Mashburn, Bud Glenn Mashburn, Bob Thompson, Frank Seabolt, and Rembert Moore. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
