BLACK Mr. Ray J. Black, 77, of 1230 Highway 41, Calhoun died Friday afternoon, July 21, 2000 at 12:30 p.m. at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Gordon County on Dec. 26, 1922, son of the late Colquit and Vera Durham Black. He was retired from Horizon Industries and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. As a veteran of the U. S. Army, he received both the Silver and Bronze stars while serving during World War II and in Korea. Survivors include his wife, Ann Black; two sons, James and Charles Black; a brother, Asa Black; and a sister, Gladys Foster, all of Calhoun. Funeral was Sunday, July 23 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home, with the Revs. J.E. Glass and Jerry Carver officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Cemetery. The Bohannons were in charge of the music. Pallbearers were Randy Shepherd, Bob Angland, Charles Guyton, Greg Carver, Gerald Carver, and Harry Lee Carver. Remaining nephews served as honorary pallbearers. Thomas Funeral home of Calhoun was in charge of arrangements.
