LONG Mrs. Dovie K. Long, age 85, of Calhoun, passed away in the Cherokee Acres Rest Home Thursday, Jan. 16, at 1 a.m. Mrs. Long had been in declining health for several months her condition becoming critical one week ago. She was born in Gilmer County, Oct. 13, 1883, daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary Ann Mathis Holden. She spent the greater part of her life in Gordon County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Long, June 24, 1953. She was a member of the Echota Baptist Church. Mrs. Long is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Grady Putnam and Mrs. John Haynes, both of Calhoun, and Mrs. Willie Beets of Marietta; six sons, Rev. Wesley Long of Kingsport, Tenn., Clay Long of Kannapolis, N. C., Riley Long of Jasper, Arvil Long of Cartersville, Leroy Long of Marietta, and Rev. Horace Long of Acworth; grandchildren and great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services fro Mrs. Long were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Pickens County. Rev. Org Foster, Rev. T. W. Cain and Rev. Ed Frady officiated. Music was arranged by Charles T. Owens. Burial was in the family lot of Jerusalem Cemetery.
