THE CALHOUN TIMES, MAY 16, 1912

Rev. Thomas C Couch passed from this earthly home to 
that not made with hands, on the morning of March 25, 1912. 
The end came almost without a moment’s warning to the 
family, although he had not been in good health for a 
number of years. He was born in Murray County GA, Dec 21 1841. 
He was 71 years of age, spent his life principally in the 
counties of Gordon and Murray, dying at his home near the 
place of his birth. He joined the Mount Hermon Baptist 
Church at the age of 16, licensed to preach 1869, 
and ordained 1879, by the church he joined, was sound in 
the faith. He pastored some churches, but his greatest gift 
was that of evangelism. He enlisted in the 36th GA Regiment 
in 1861, serving his country faithfully until 1864, when 
health failed him and he was honorably discharged. 
In 1870, he was married to Miss Selena Green. 
To this union were born two sons, one dying when small, 
the other son and wife still live to mourn the departure 
of their loved one. In the death of Brother Couch, 
the country has lost a good citizen, the wife a true and 
faithful husband, the son a kind an loving father. 
His last words to his son were: “All is well with me. 
I will not be with you but a few moments longer.”
