THE CAIRO MESSENGER December 01, 1933 GODWIN – MITCHELL MARRIAGE - Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Godwin, of Thomasville, formerly of Cairo, announced this week the marriage of their daughter, Evelyn, to Mr. Quinton Eugene Mitchell of Cairo, the ceremony having been solemnized on Monday, June 12th, last, in Tallahas- see. The young couple will be tempor- arily located in Cairo but will move early in the new year to Wauchula, Fla. where Mt. Mitchell will be en- gaged in business. They have many friends here and in Florida who will be interested in the announcement of their marriage. ___________ PHILATHEA CLASS MEETS The regular business, meeting of the Philathea class of the Cairo Bap- tist Sunday School was hle on Mon- day night in the home of Mrs. J. S. Johnson, in the form of a tack party, with the following hostesses: Mrs. Ellis, Mrs. G. D. Hurst, Mrs. Lannis Poulk, Mrs. Keadle and Mrs. Arthur Muggridge. The room was decorated, with beau- tiful autumn leaves. The meeting opened with prayer by Mrs. J. S. Johnson, with eighteen members present. After the business, the members enjoyed a social hour of stunts, and discussing who was the tackiest. Refreshments consisted of sand- wiches, roasted nuts, and hot tea. ___________ MRS. LINDAY HOSTESS AT BRIDGE— Mrs. J. A. Lindsay was a charming hostess, when she entertained mem- bers of her Friday Afternoon bridge club and other guests at bridge last Friday, afternoon. The attractive home was adorned with an effective arrangement of pink roses and pot plants. An especially delightful refresh- ment course was served consisting of fruit cake topped with whipped cream, wafers, hot toasted sandwhi- es, daisy mints and French nectar. Mrs. J. B. Warnell won high score. Paying, besides the hostess, were Mesdames, Warnell, J. T. Woodall, R. C. Bell, M. C. McManous, J. A. Pow- ell, 1st J. A. Powell, and and John S. Herndon. ___________ NO RAIN FOR TWELVE WEEKS Southwest Georgia’s most severe drought ended its twelfth week Thurs- day, with no rain in prospect for the immediate future. Woodland fires continue to cover great areas, thought fires in Cairo are less frequent than a few weeks ago. ________ Mr. & Mrs. C., A. Curry left Wed- nesday to visit the former’s sisters in Jacksonville during the remaindar of the week. __________ Mr. & Mrs. M. A. Murray, and young daughter, Sylvia, are spending the Thanksgiving holidays with Mrs. M. I. Ledford, and family.
