The shooting occured near the place of Mr. H. J. Poulk, a little better than three miles north-west of town, in the public road, while the two negroes in company with four others were in an automobile. After the shooting Oliver got on his bicycle, which he had on the car with him and made good his escape. Harrell who was shot was immediately brought to Dr. Walker's Sanitarium by his companions. It is said that Harrell was sitting on the front seat while Oliver was on the back seat. A controversy arose as to whom was going to drive the car, when Oliver pulled out his pistol, placed it to Harrell's neck, and pulled the trigger, the bullet going in under the collar bone. As stated, the car was stopped and turned around and brought the wounded negro to Cairo, while the other negro got on his bicycle and "lit a shuck." Harrell is doing nicely and will get well if no complications set in. In the meantime, Sheriff Perkins is on the trail of Oliver and hopes to soon have him behind bars. The car in which the shooting occured belonged to a negro by the name of McGriff. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
