The Cairo Messenger
This morning, Friday, 30 colored men will leave for Camp Gordon.  The Local 
Board received instructions to send 32 men from Class One, who were fit for 
general military service to Camp Gordon, the first or original order being for 
49 colored men, but as the list of this class of men has been practically 
exhausted only 32 men can be sent.  Twenty-eight reported yesterday afternoon 
at four o'clock to Chief Clerk Johnson, four failing to show up.  Mr. Johnson 
gave them their instructions and turned the "soldiers" over to Rev. Cruse of 
the colored Methodist church to take charge of until the train leaves this 
morning at five-thirty.  A banquet was given for them at the church.

Fifty-one white men will be sent out next Thursday, the 27th.  If the Local 
Board does not receive any further official orders between now and next 
Thursday, the list below comprises the boys who will leave here at that time 
for Camp Gordon.

However there are 57 names on the list from which the 51 will be selected.
