The case went to trial last Friday morning and in less than three hours it was in the hands of the jury. The jury remained out only about thirty minutes bringing in a verdict of guilty of first degree murder against Vick. Solicitor Bell represented the State while S. P. Cain, Esq., represented the defendant. Judge Harrell withheld sentence until Saturday morning when he sentenced Vick to die on the gallows Friday, April 25th. Mr. Cain immediately made a motion for a new trial. Judge Harrell set the date for the hearing for April 14th at Camilla. If Vick hangs he will be the first person in Grady County to pay the penalty on the gallows, and is the second person to be sentenced to be hanged. The first man to be sentenced to death was tried at the second session of Grady Superior Court, but received a new trial and was later sentenced to ten years for manslaughter. After the sentencing of Vick, Judge Harrell adjourned court after it had been in session for three weeks. Much business was disposed of during this time, many old cases being wiped off the docket.
