The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for FREE access. ************************************************************************************************************** The Cairo Messenger, December 11, 1964 Final Rites for Gilbert Avery, 33, Friday, Dec. 4 Funeral services for Gilbert Avery, 33, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident near Mt. Pleasant Wednesday night, were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at New Home Freewill Baptist Church in Decatur County with the Revs. Chester Gilbert, Jack Horn and Jake Scott officiating. Interment was in Brock Cemetery in Decatur County with Cox Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Avery was a life-long resident of Decatur County and was a farmer. He was an active member of New Home Church, and served as a deacon and song leader. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie D. Avery, Climax, three sisters, Mrs. O. L. Cook, Meigs, Mrs. Riley Wilson, Quincy, Fla., and Mrs. Durwood Cumbie, Pelham; three brothers, Edward Avery, Mt. Dora, Fla., John H. Avery, Cairo and Rufus Avery, Columbus.
