Cumbie Dies After Lengthy Illness Funeral services for James Melvin Cumbie, 67, who died Friday afternoon, August 19, were held on Sunday afternoon, August 21 at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. Reverend W. E. Pledger and Reverend J. P. McMurrian officiated at the services. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Cumbie was born in Decatur County on August 17, 1899 and lived all of his life in Grady County. He was the son of the late T. A. and Nora Daughtry Cumbie. He was a retired carpenter, and was a member of the Baptist faith. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sam Wade of Cairo, Georgia and Mrs. T. W. Miller of Iron City, Georgia. Pallbearers were Aaron Hardwick, Donald Wade, Gene Wade, Earl Faircloth, J. W. Brock and V. J. Adams. Clark Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
