F. O. Oates, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 17 in a Cairo hospital following a brief illness. A retired minister, he had served Grady County churches for 45 years and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church near Cairo. Surviving are six sons, Jesse Oates, Uley Oates and Edward Oates, Cairo; Frank Oates, Ochlochnee, Charlie Oates, Orlando, Fla., and Burl Oates, Thomasville, three daughters, Mrs. Ellis Thursday, Moultrie, Mrs. Gladys Tilley, Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs Lula Bell Butler, Meigs; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and four adopted children, Mrs. Daisey Kierce, Mrs. Willard Williams, Carlson Collins and Carlos Collins. Burial was in the church cemetery with Miller's Funeral Home in charge.
