The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for FREE access. ************************************************************************************************************** The Cairo Messenger Mr. Ulysses Grant Maxwell Dies in Florida Mr. Ulysses Grant Maxwell, 73, died September 25, 1969, at the Veterans Hospital in Lake City, Florida after suffering a pulmonary embolism. Funeral services were held at Miller's Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on September 27, with Rev. Wade Dykes and Rev. W. E. Pledger officiating. Active pallbearers were Winfred Mobley, Virgil Whigham, Willie Mac Maxwell, Howard (Pete) Harrison, Bobby Hancock, and Leo Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Harrison, Dee Belcher, Carl Minter, Tommy Voyles, D. Y. Hadden, Bob Ellis, M. B. (Melvin Bennie) Brock, Noles Smith, Richard Porter, III, Robert Whigham, and Earl Bell. Mr. Maxwell was born October 15, 1895. His parents were Jimmy E. McNair and Dannie C. Maxwell. On February 14, 1926, he was married to the former Melissa Dean and lived in Grady County. He was a farmer before retirement. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Melissa Maxwell; 2 sons, Lester G. Maxwell, Americus; and Wallace N. Maxwell, Cairo; 5 daughters, Mrs. Robert E. Ready and Mrs. John H. Cobb, Jr. both of Cairo; Mrs. William Roebuck, Cleveland, Tenn.; Mrs. William C. McAfee, Americus; and Mrs. Richard U. Sherman, III, Columbus, Ohio. Miller Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
