The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for FREE access. ************************************************************************************************************** The Cairo Messenger, September 14, 1962 Riley Harrell Passes in Newton, Mississippi Mr. William Riley Harrell passed away in the Newton Hospital in Newton, Mississippi on Thursday, Aug. 30, following pneumonia and other complications. Mr. Harrell was born in what was then Decatur County near Mars Hill Christian Church in 1879. He was a member of the Mars Hill Church. He went to Florida early in life and was a foreman in the phosphate mines. After six years, he moved to Savannah and was a street car conductor for three years. Finally he returned to South Georgia and built roads in the state and later served as deputy sheriff in Grady County for three years. From 1945 to 1955, he served as a policeman with the state of Florida. Mr. Harrell was married to the former Genie Sadler of Grady County in 1921. She passed away in 1942, then in 1942, he and Miss Mary Lou Harris of Tallahassee, Fla. were married. Mr. and Mrs. Harrell retired to their home in Decatur, Miss. in 1960. He leaves his widow, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Clayton of Brewton, Ala. and Mrs. Bessie Fleischer of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Lonnie Harrell of Boca Raton, Fla. and Preston Harrell of Orange City, Fla, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrell was buried in the Decatur Cemetery with Rev. Herman Kelly, pastor of the Newton Christian Church and Reverend I. M. Miller, pastor of the Decatur Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were V. M. Harris, R. L. Harris, J. H. Harris, Curtis Laird, Marty Harris and James H. Addy.
