The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for FREE access. ************************************************************************************************************** Bainbridge Post-Searchlight, September 28, 1996 Cuy Harrell, Jr. Dec. 12, 1915-Sept. 24, 1996 Funeral services for Mr. Cuy (Jack) Harrell Jr., 80, of Whigham were held Thursday, September 26, in the Whigham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Weyman Cleveland and the Rev. Joey Cannon officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, with Sonny Lee, Billy Thomas, Sammy George, Terry Palmer, Paul Harrell, Billy Harrell, Buddy West and Spencer Duncan serving as pallbearers. Mr. Harrell died Sept. 24 in Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville. He was a lifelong resident of Grady County and was president of Cuy Harrell Farms, Inc. He was a member of the Whigham United Methodist Church, where he had taught a Sunday School class and served as chairman of the board of stewards. A graduate of Cairo High School, he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in animal husbandry. He served on the Whigham school board and the Grady County Board of Education for 25 years, received the Grady County Farm Family of the Year in 1990, and was a member of the Whigham Community Club, Georgia Forestry Association and American Tree Farms System. He was an avid sportsman, was a contributor to the Georgia Sheriff's Association, and especially enjoyed judging mules at the annual Mule Day celebration in Calvary. He also served on the courthouse planning committee in Grady County for the present courthouse after the former building burned. He hosted the annual Cane Water Pond gathering, carrying on a tradition started by his grandfather, the late Martin Harrell, and continued by his father, the late Cuy Harrell Sr. Survivors include his wife, Emmye R. Harrell; three daughters, Julia Cothron of Richmond, Va., Emily Maxwell of Whigham, and Jacqueline Crew of Thomasville; a son, Cuy Harrell III of Whigham; and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whigham United Methodist Church Building Fund, Whigham, Ga. 31797. Clark Funeral Home of Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
