G. Harrell was called to the southern portion of the county near the Florida line to hold an inquest over the body of Phil Adams, an old negro who had been found dead about noon in the field of Mr. Harrison. No doubt Adams became overheated and fearing that he would faint or have a sun stroke, made off in the direction of a tree where he could rest, as his tracks in the soft plowed land indicated this. He evidently died from natural causes as there were no scars or marks on the body to indicate violence had been done. He was said to have been about 55 years of age and was a law abiding negro. The jury rendered the following verdict: "We, the jury, find that the deceased, Phil Adams, came to his death by natural causes." Signed — W. G. Gainey, Foreman; H. E. Harvin, S. H. Stringer, R. E. Stringer, T. O. Harrison, A. R. Sessions."
