L. Barber Dies Suddenly Wednesday Mr. D. L. (Fayette) Barber, about sixty years of age, died suddenly at his home about four about four miles northeast of Cairo on Wednesday afternoon about six o'clock, following an illness of only a few hours. He was in his usual health until Wednesday morning, when he was suddenly seized by an attack of heart trouble and he gradually grew worse until the end came. Mr. Barber came to this immediate section from Sumter County when about sixteen years of age, and has been a valuable and enterprising citizen of this county, always standing for the best things for his community. Coming to this section as a poor boy and working for a number of years for wages on farms, Mr. Barber, by his thrift and close attention to his business, acquired before his death, a competency for his family and was among the largest taxpayers of the county. Never making show or ostentation, he was a splendid demonstration of what a young man, by taking advantage of the opportunities of this section, may accomplish. He proved a good financier and accumulated a fair estate. About 25 years ago, Mr. Barber was married to Miss Emma Singletary and to this union have been born three daughters and three sons who with his wife, survive him. For more than thirty years, the deceased has been a consistent member of the Long Branch Baptist church where he was always regarded as a most valuable member. He was sixty one years of age on last January 9th, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was laid to rest Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Long Branch Burial ground, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. P. Swann. A large number of relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to their departed companion.
