The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for FREE access. ************************************************************************************************************** The Cairo Messenger, April 30, 1948 The many friends of Mr. Gordon James Martin were saddened to hear of his death which occurred at his home here at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, April 23rd, after an illness of three weeks. The funeral was held at the Chapel of South Georgia Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. N. G. Christopher in charge. The following served as pallbearers: Messrs. Leonard Wells, Alton Bonner, Mack Thompson, Ennis Pitts, Howard Waters and Frank Maxwell. Interment was in Providence Cemetery. His entire life was spent in this community. He was born in Decatur County, now Grady, on March 20, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Martin. He was married to Miss Mamie Jones on Jan. 5, 1914. He was employed as a mechanic. Of the Missionary Baptist faith he lived true to the teachings of his church. He was a devoted husband, father and neighbor. His loved ones and friends deplore his untimely passing. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Mr. Carson Martin and Mr. Cleo Martin, all of Cairo; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lewis, of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Mary Alice Miller, of New Albany, Ind.; four brothers, Messrs. John Martin, of Bainbridge, Gaston Martin, of Monticello, Fla., Lloyd Martin, of Lakeland, Fla., and Henry Martin, of Jacksonville, Fla., and four grandchildren.
