Calvin Hornsby, a pioneer resident of this section died at his home near Cairo at 9:45 o'clock on Christmas eve morning at the age of 86 years, two months and seventeen days. Senility was given as the cause of his death. He had been ill for several weeks and life slowly left him. Death came on the 63rd anniversary of his marriage. Mr. Hornsby was born October 7th, 1851, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hornsby, in Decatur, now Grady County. On Christmas eve 63 years ago he and Miss Martha Knight were married, and she died May 4th, 1930. Mr. Hornsby was a member of the Whigham Baptist Church as was active in county and Whigham community affairs as long as his health permitted. He had lived in retirement for some years, however. Funeral and interment were at the Whigham cemetery at 4 o'clock on Christmas eve afternoon in charge of Rev. N. G. Christopher and Oliver Funeral Home. Pallbearers were P. H. and O. P. Harrison, T. J. Mills, N. W. Maxwell, Frank Proctor and H. H. Wind. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Herbert W. Maxwell, Cairo; three sons, James Hornsby, Lake Okeechobee, Fla., and Mose and Will Hornsby, Ebb, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Bobe Harrison, Whigham; and a brother, J. B. Hornsby, Whigham.
