M. Gray Saturday Afternoon in West Palm Beach Fort Pierce News: Mrs. Alberta Alice Gray, beloved wife of L. M. Gray and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Carlton died in West Palm Beach Saturday at 1 o'clock after a brief illness. The news has cast a gloom over the entire community and the expressions of sympathy for the bereaved are numerous. The death of Mrs. Gray was sudden, her illness being of short duration and none were expecting her unfortunate and untimely death. She recently went to Palm Beach for medical attention but there were no fears for her life. Early Saturday morning, her mother, Mrs. L. L. Carlton, and husband, L. M. Gray, went to West Palm Beach and at 1 o'clock she passed away. For practically her whole life she had lived here and her many friends included practically all the citizens of the town and a good part of the county. Her body was brought to Fort Pierce Sunday morning and the funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the Rev. W. Minor Dempsey officiating. An immense gathering of friends attended the services and the funeral cortege was one of the longest that has ever seen in Fort Pierce. Mrs. Gray was a beautiful and lovely character. She was connected with prominent families here and had an unusually large circle of friends. She is survived by an infant daughter, Lucy Jane, whom she named, by her husband, L. M. Gray, by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Carlton, and a host of relatives and intimate acquaintances. Her pallbearers were Edgar Lewis, F. G. McMullen, Frank Stetson, Gus Hart, Ed Edge and Dr. J. C. Coe. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Fee & Stewart, undertakers. Alberta Alice Dardis, stepdaughter and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Carlton and beloved with of L. L. Gray, was born December 26, 1892 near Fort Pierce, being twenty-seven years, eleven months and sixteen days of age at the time of her departure. Her early education was received in the public school at this place, she later attended Stetson University at Deland and in 1911-12 receiving from that institution, diplomas in shorthand, typewriting, and book keeping. July 18, 1916, she was married to L. M. Gray and to him was ever afterward a faithful, loving, ideal wife and companion. She was a woman held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, one who possessed the true virtues of womanhood, a companion and a friend whose departure will long be mourned by her relatives and numerous friends who loved and revered her. Her untimely death occurred at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Good Samaritan Hospital, West Palm Beach, following the birth of her little baby.
