C. Graham Passes To Great Beyond Our little city is sad today and the curtain of gloom hangs heavy about her borders, because one of her noble sons has answered the call to come up higher. It was indeed a sad shock to the many friends of Dr. Calvin Graham when the news was spread on Wednesday night about nine o'clock, that he had passed away. He had only been sick for about twelve days; but that dread disease Typhoid, coupled with other troubles made it impossible for medical skill and tender nursing to cope with it, and he passed out of this life into a larger and more blessed one. Down in the southeastern part of Decatur county, forty-eight years ago last September, there was born into Mr. Billie Graham's family, a son, a fine little fellow, who looked very promising to the proud parents. All through boyhood, through youth and young manhood, this promise of a bright future has attended and even more marked has it become as he steps out into the arena of life, where he shall for himself face the issues that constantly arise. His was not an easy path strewn with roses, but the rugged way that develops the best that is in us, yet leads to victory through the application of one's best effort. He made his professional education by teaching school and since his graduation from the Atlanta Dental College has been engaged in the practice of his profession. He first located in Whigham where he lived for about two years, when he moved here, where he has enjoyed a very large patronage. Not only has he been successful along business lines, but he has made friends wherever he is known, and is prominent in Religious, Fraternal and political circles. He served as State Senator from this District for the past two years and was a conspicuous figure about the State Capitol. Any death is sad, but when a sturdy, stalwart man like this is summoned, it brings us face to face with the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death. This robust man was just in the prime of life and the future was as bright as ever before him, yet he has gone, how much will be misssed, his influence, his usefulness, his public spiritedness and his loyalty to the rights of others. He leaves a wife who was Miss Alta Brownlee of Whigham, and small son to mourn his loss, also a daughter Miss Maud and son Herbert, children by a former marriage. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Graham of Grady County and several sisters and brothers. They are Mr. J. W. Graham of Donalsonville, T. Harrison, half-brother, Beachton, Mrs. Miles Vanlandingham and Mrs. Henry Rehberg of near Cairo and Mrs. J. M. Gilbert of near Whigham. The funeral services were held at the residence on Broad St. at 12:30 Thursday conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. L. Wight, of the Methodist Church, assited by Dr. B. D. Ragsdale. The body was shipped to Reno on the 2:30 p.m. train and taken from there to Bethel church for interment. The services at the grave were conducted by the K. of P. Lodge of Cairo and the Masonic Lodge of Whigham. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
