For the past three years she has been an invalid and has suffered intensely from the complication of diseases that have afflicted her. The quiet, patient manner in which she bore her suffering has been remarkable -- and truly attested to her faith in The Ruler of the universe, who doeth all things well. Mrs. Swicord in her refined, cultured and stately manners typified the highest attainments of pure southern womanhood. Her Christian character, her loyalty to right principles, her devotion to duty, her lovable disposition has endeared her to a host of friends, who mourn today because she has gone from their midst. Prior to her marriage to Mr. Mike Swicord, she was Miss Ruth VanLandingham. After her marriage she continued to live in Cairo, and was the popular proprietress of the famous Drummer's Retreat Hotel well known for its excellent table fare. Her life was saddened by the death of her husband and little daughter, yet with Christian fortitude she has fought alone the battles of life and bravely faced the storms that rage in human lives. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Maxie Poulk and Mr. R. L. VanLandingham of Cairo; Mr. W. T. VanLandingham of Vienna, Ga. and Mrs. Anna Parker, a half sister, of Toombsboro, Ga., besides a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held this Friday morning, at 10 o'clock, at the residence of Mrs. Maxie Poulk and will be conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. L. Wright of the Methodist church. Interment will follow at Cairo cemetery. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
