M. Griffin Buried At Pleasant Grove The body of Mr. Arthur M. Griffin, son of Mr. S. B. Griffin, of this city who was killed in an automobile accident near Lakeland, Fla. last Wednesday, was brought to Cairo Friday morning, and was carried to the home of his father where it remained until Sunday morning when it was taken to Pleasant Grove Church, eight miles north of town, where the funeral services were held, followed by interrment in the church yard there. Mr. Griffin was a young man, only 27 years of age, yet in his short business career, he had demonstrated his ability and had won the trust and favor of his employers, and was climbing the ladder step by step that leads to success. Having been reared in and near Cairo, he was well and popularly known, and it is with genuine regret that his friends learn of his sad demise. Just when life with all its fullness and glory is expanding before him, he is taken. For the past four years, Mr. Griffin has been agent for the Union News Co. at Lakeland, where he filled well and acceptably that place. He was popular in that city and has many friends there who will miss him. He, in company with a friend, had gone down to Tampa to spend the night, and as they were returning next morning in the car, which was going at 18 miles an hour, a tire burst and threw the car against a tree and overturned it. Death was not due to any broken bones or bruises, but was caused by the jar and shock of the impact which was too great a strain on the weak heart of Mr. Griffin. The friend escaped with only slight bruises. Mr. A. C. Forester, of this city and Mr. Kedar Griffin, of Savannah, went to Lakeland and arranged for this shipment of the body home. Mr. Griffin is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Griffin, one brother, Mr. Kedar Griffin, of Savannah, and other relatives in and near Cairo. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. P. Swann and the following acted as pallbearers: Messrs. Byron Merritt, D. C. Alligood, W. H. Hudson, E. O. Alligood, C. D. Roddenbery, and P. M. Baggett. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
