J. Coppage Passes To Great Beyond From Valdosta Times: A very sad death was that of Mrs. J. J. Coppage, which occurred between 11 and 12 o'clock Sunday morning at the family home on Slater Street, between Gordon and Force. Her death was caused by pneumonia, with which she had suffered for just a week. She contracted the malady while nursing her little daughter, who was taken with the disease several days previously. Both of the patients seemed to be getting along very well and no alarm was felt for either of them until Saturday night, when Mrs. Coppage's symptoms did not appear to be satisfactory to the attending physicians. She grew worse through the night, but it was stated Sunday morning that she was holding her own. Her family and friends were hopeful of her recovery until just a short while before her death, which came peacefully just a little before noon on Sunday. Mrs. Coppage was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Smith and was married to Mr. J. J. Coppage about twelve or fourteen years ago. She left three children, the oldest of whom is a little girl about 12 years of age. She had spent most of her life in this city and attended the public schools here. The family moved to Cairo three or four years ago, but returned to Valdosta several weeks ago. They resided in the former residence of Judge O. M. Smith on Slater street. The deceased was an affectionate wife, a devoted mother, a dutiful daughter and a good neighbor and friend. Her death causes much regret to all who knew her and her bereaved family have the deep sympathy of many friends in this city. Her funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock and the interment took place in the city cemetery here.
