Spear succumbed and passed away at his home in the southern part of town on last Monday morning. He was 65 years of age and was born in Meriwether County, Georgia in July of 1849. Death came not upon him unprepared but he went as one who knows in whom he has placed his trust and is not afraid. At the age of 31 he was married to Miss Ola Dozier of Randolph county, where they resided until a few years ago. To this union seven children were born, all of which survive their father. They are Miss Mary Spear, Messrs. Marvin, Ralph, Arthur and Reid Spear, all of Cairo, Mrs. W. E. Buchanan of Texas and Mr. Dozier Spear of Savannah. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. L. Wright, from the family home on Tuesday morning, interment following at the City cemetery.
