Wilmot, wife of the late Dr. D. H. Wilmot, died last Wednesday (August 18th) at the residence of her daughter, Lizzie, in Shelbyville, Tenn. It was Mrs. Wilmot's desire to be buried here, also, the intention of her children to have her buried in Cairo by the side of her husband. Arrangements were practically made to bring the body to Cairo, but one daughter, who was in California, was delayed by a storm and washout, causing them to give up the long trip to Cairo. She was buried in Shelbyville, Tenn., last Sunday afternoon. She leaves two boys, W. E. (Everett) and D. H. (Dan) and three girls, Lula, Lizzie and Daisy. While it has been probably 30 years since the family moved from Cairo to Lumpkin, Ga., there are many who remember this beloved man and his family, Dr. Wilmot, more especially as our representative in the Legislature, so far as known, he being the first man to introduce a bill to stop running freight trains on Sunday. Also a bill to create a new county from about the same territory as now composes Grady. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
