A. Roddenbery Passes Away Thursday Our town and community were saddened Thursday morning when the news of the death of Mrs. M. A. Roddenbery which occurred at nine-thirty at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Robinson, on North Broad street. Mrs. Roddenbery was 78 years of age on her last birthday, March, last and had enjoyed comparatively good health for one of her age. On Monday, a week ago she started to the Baptist Church to attend the Missionary meeting, but only got as far as Mrs. Robinson's when she was taken sick and where has since been confined to her bed, suffering from malarial fever, with a catarral complication. Her condition for several days past has been very critical and her death was not wholly unexpected by her loved ones who administered so lovingly and patiently to her. Prior to her marriage to Dr. L. A. Roddenberry, she was Miss America Braswell, a member of that prominent family that is well known in Decatur and Thomas counties. She spent the greater portion of her life in and around Cairo, where she was known and loved by all. Although never of a very strong constitution, she has lived to see her children reared and settled and has had them to make her happy during her later years. She has survived her lamented husband for a number of years. Her life was saddened three years ago by the untimely death of her son Anderson, the brilliant Congressman from the Second District, who died in the prime of his life in the midst of success. Although her physical condition was such that she could not take an active part in church and charity work, yet many noble deeds and loving kindnesses were done by her that have brightened and blessed those depressed or in need. Her lovely Christian character around which a halo of light shines has and will bless this community in which she has spent her three score years and ten, and to which God has added eight others. She is survived by the following children, W. B. Roddenbery, C. D. Roddenbery, and Mrs. W. H. Robinson, of this city, and R. S. Roddenbery of Moultrie, all of whom were at her bedside when the end came. The funeral services will be held from the Baptist church, of which the deceased was a devoted and consecrated member for a number of years at ten o'clock, Friday morning, and will be conducted by her pastor, Dr. J. A. Wynn, assisted by Rev. D. H. Parker of Thomasville and Rev. J. M. Rushin, of Boston, both of whom are former pastors and lifelong friends. The interment will follow at the family lot in the city cemetery. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.1 Kb
