Pope Passes to the Great Beyond Mr. Jeff A. Pope, one of Grady's oldest citizens, passed away suddenly at his home in north Grady on last Saturday about one o'clock. Mr. Pope had been to Ochlocknee during the morning on business. He was taken sick while out in the yard and he called for help to get into his house. Just after entering his room and laying down upon his bed he requested to be raised up and a moment after being helped to a sitting position he expired. Mr. Pope was a member of a distinguished family. He was born 85 years ago near the spot where the noted Kimball house now stands in Atlanta. It was then known as Marthaville. He had 12 brothers and sisters, of which only one survies him, Mr. M. F. Pope, of Vallanow, Ga. being the only brother now living. Mr. Pope moved to Metcalfe fifty-one years ago and has continuously lived in this immediate section. For many years he has lived upon his farm in this county. He leaves only one son, Mr. M. Pope, who lived near his father. His wife preceded him to the grave little over three years ago. Mr. Pope for many years has been one of the leading members of Macedonia church. For years he was the clerk of the Tucker Baptist Association. Many people who knew Mr. Pope, familiarly called him "Uncle Jeff." He was a popular and good citizen and will be badly missed in his community and county. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
