S. Walden Dies Last Sunday Mr. C. S. Walden who was shot on January 25th by J. E. Sasser, and was operated upon at a local sanitarium, died last Sunday afternoon a few minutes after five o'clock. Mr. Walden began to grow worse Saturday morning and it was soon seen that he was in a precarious condition and the attending physicians saw at once there was very little hope for his recovery. He would, no doubt survived the operation, had not peritonitis set in. Sunday morning, after being told he could not live, he made a statement, relative to the shooting which was practically the same as appeared in last week's issue of The Messenger. Walden stated that he did not have a knife at the time he was shot and that he was shot without warning. He stated that at the time of the shooting he was not following Sasser trying to pick a fuss or fight, but was asked by Sasser to go with him and they would talk the court matter over and try to settle their differences in a peaceable manner, without having to go to court. The deceased was about 41 years of age and leaves a wife and several children, besides numerous relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The remains were laid to rest Monday afternoon in the Godwin cemetery near town at 3:30 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. B. Wright and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
