W. Arnold Buried in Cairo Wednesday The many friends throughout south Georgia of Mrs. Mellile Arnold, wife of Rev. J. W. Arnold of Pavo, will learn with regret of her death, which occurred at her home at 2:30 o'clock last Monday afternoon. Mrs. Arnold has been in declining health for the past year or more, during which time she has been confined to her room, tho' at times she was able to get out for a visit. Monday she was feeling as well as usual until about thirty minutes prior to her death when she grew suddenly weak and her condition was seen to be critical. In half an hour her body no longer able to fight off the disease, succumbed and the beautiful life of a noble woman came to a close. Mrs. Arnold who prior to her marriage to Rev. J. W. Arnold was Miss Mellie Powell of this city, where her girlhood and young womanhood was spent. She was ever a gentle, sweet spirited girl, loved by all, and when she took the place of companion to her preacher husband these charms and graces grew and blossomed. The body was brought to Cairo Thursday morning and taken to the home of Mrs. Eugene Clower until three o'clock when it was taken to the Methodist church where the funeral was conducted by the Rev. E. F. Morgan, presiding elder of the Thomasville District, assisted by Rev. J. T. Ryder and Rev. J. B. Wright. Interment followed in the city cemetery. The large concourse of relatives and friends and the lovely and numerous floral offering attest to the high esteem in which this splendid character was held. The following gentlemen all nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers: Messrs. W. L. Wight, K. P. Wight, J. A. Powell, T. A. Powell, K. Powell, L. B. Powell and Tom Wight. Rev. Arnold and children and other relatives have the sympathy of all in their sorrow. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
