L. Rigsby, mother of Mr. L. W. Rigsby, of this city is no more. Her soul passed away at the home of her son last Sunday evening at 6:30 o'clock. Mrs. Rigsby had been confined to her bed for the past year and the end was not unexpected, yet everything that loving hands and medical science could do was done for this good woman. She was a consistent member of the Cairo Baptist Church and would have been 77 years of age if she had lived until October 31st. Mrs. Rigsby was the daughter of Lewis and Judith Clay and reared and educated in Dawson, Terrell County. In early girlhood, she joined the Dawson Baptist Church and has always remained a loyal member to her church. Before her marriage, she taught school in Miller, Decatur and Thomas counties, and was a passenger on the first passenger train operated on the Southwestern railroad out of Dawson. She was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church and only a few years before her death, she assisted in the organization of the Capel Baptist Church and always took a great interest in charity and church work. All of her brothers and sisters had preceded her. Her husband had left her 2 years, 1 month and 12 days. Her son L. W. Rigsby of this city is the only surviving member of the family. The remains were laid to rest last Monday afternoon at Long Branch cemetery, the funeral services being held in the church and were conducted by Dr. J. A. Wynne, Rev. J. W. Cannon and Rev. J. P. Swann, a life long friend of the deceased. The last sad rites were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The Messenger extends condolence to the bereaved ones.
