Smith Dies On Mexican Border Mr. W. L. Smith, Grady's new deputy sheriff, received a wire Tuesday from the Federal authorities at Fort Bliss, Texas, announcing the death of his son, Edward T. Smith, who was a member of the Albany Guards on border patrol. The telegram stated that the young man died from pneumonia, but did not state how long he had been sick. This is the first news Mr. Smith has received from his son since his enlistment last summer and did not know where he was located. Mr. Smith was 19 years of age and was a member of the Pine Forest Bapitst Church. The remains are expected to arrive in this city Friday morning and will be carried to its last resting place four miles north of Pelham. He is survived by his father and mother, several brothers and sisters, besides numerous relatives and friends. The Messenger extends condolence to the bereaved ones in their hour of affliction.
