The Cairo Messenger, Friday, October 5, 1917
Mr. L. C. Draffin, one of the county's most highly respected citizens passed 
away last Sunday night about 12 o'clock, at his home seven miles above town. 
Mr. Draffin was about 70 years of age, and had been sick for four or five 
weeks, yet he had been in feeble health for a year or more. His death was due 
to old and stomach trouble. Mr. Draffin was a consistent member of the Pine 
Level Baptist church. The funeral services were held at three o'clock Monday 
afternoon, at Pine Level church, being conducted by Rev. J. P. Swann. The 
remains were interred in the church cemetery. A large crowd of sorrowing 
relatives and friends attened the last sad rites of this fine old gentleman. He 
is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters, besides numerous 
relatives and friends. The Messenger extends condolence to the bereaved ones in 
their hour of affliction.
