C. Thomason, one of the county's oldest and most highly respected citizens, passed away at the home of his son, Mr. J. D. Thomason, four miles east of town, last Tuesday morning at 5:30 o'clock. Mr. Thomason scratched his hand while cutting wood about two weeks ago, and in helping skin a calf, a week later, the wound became inflamed, blood poison setting in. The blood poison, along with his feeble health and old age, was the cause of his demise. He had been in failing health for several months, yet he was in bed only from last Friday until his death. Mr. Thomason was 79 years of age this month, and was a Confederate veteran, having served four years in the war between the states. He was laid to rest Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock in the Cairo Cemetery, the funeral services being conducted at the grave by Dr. J. A. Wynne, pastor of the Cairo Baptist church. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended his funeral. He is survived by four sons, Messrs. J. D., W. G., Jr., C. M. and M. B. Thomason, all of Grady county; four daughters, Mrs. B. C. Woolfolk of Pearce, Fla., Mrs. S. A. Dixon and Mrs. T. M. Barwick, both of Meigs; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Thornton of Gadsden, Ala., Mrs. Preston Grier of Lafeyette, Ala., and Mrs. Davis Long and Miss Lou Thomason of Ellersley, Ga. We extend condolence to the bereaved ones. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
