W. Jones Killed In Automobile Accident News was received in Cairo last Tuesday afternoon of the death of Mr. R. W. Jones, who was killed in an automobile accident near Macon Tuesday morning. Mr. Jones owns one of the largest and best farms in the county, it being located in the Spence district. He was one of the county's most prominent citizens and had many friends, who will regret to learn of his sudden demise. The funeral services were held Thursday morning at ten o'clock at the Methodist church in Pelham, Rev. Etheridge, of Baconton, conducting the last sad rites. The church was filled to its capacity with sorrowing relatives and friends, many being unable to enter. He was laid to rest with Masonic honors, Pine Forest Lodge participating with Pelham Lodge. Interment was in the Pelham cemetery. Many from Cairo and Grady County were present. Wednesday's Telegraph carried the following story of the unfortunate accident which resulted in Mr. Jones death and the injury to his children who were with him at the time of the accident. "Robert Wilson Jones, aged 55 years, a well-known Grady County planter, was instantly killed yesterday morning near Seven Bridges, six miles south of Macon, when a car backing away from a gasoline filling station ran into one he was driving, turning it over and pinning him beneath. Mr. Jones had been in Macon visiting his sister, Mrs. H. G. Bell, 215 First Street, and was returning to his home when the accident occured. Three of Mr. Jones' children were in the car with him at the time, as well as his niece, Mrs. I. M. Marchant, and William Carter of Richland. They escaped with slight bruises. The accident occured on the Houston road, near Whiteside & Nash's store. Mr. Jones is survived by four children, three sons, William, Robert and George Jones, and Miss Sara Jones, of near Pelham; brothers, Charles W. and Walter B. Jones of Doerun; J. M. Jones of Tifton; A. T. and H. H. Jones of Sale City; sisters, Mrs. Fannie Reese of Preston; Mrs. Gillie Daniel of Fitzgerald; Mrs. Mary Bell and Miss Anna Jones of Macon. The body will be taken this (Wednesday) morning at 11:50 to Pelham where the funeral services and interment will take place Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
