Cliett with the American forces in France. A telegram was received from the War Department at Washington last Friday that he was killed in action on July 20th. The telegram was to his father, Mr. F. L. Cliett at Reno, where young Cliett formerly lived. Cliett was the first Grady county man to be killed in France, yet W. H. Collins, Jr., was reported as having died form wounds received in action last Wednesday a week ago. Mr. Cliett enlisted in the army on March 1917 and had been in France for the past eight months. He was 27 years of age last October and is survived by his father and mother and three brothers. His mother has received a letter from him regular and received one from him since she received the news of his death. We understand that he had $10,000 insurance with the government, made payable to his mother. The telegram to Mr. Cliett is as follows: Washington, D. C., Aug. 2, 1918. Mr. Franklin L. Cliett, Reno, Ga. Deeply regret to inform you that Private Earl I. Cliett, infantry, is officially reported as killed in action July 20th. McCain the Adjutant General From the above telegram this young man who went forward to fight for world freedom was killed during the present Allied offensive.
