The Cairo Messenger, Friday, August 16, 1918
Mrs. J. D. Ray died at the City Hospital in Thomasville last Saturday night 
about eight thirty.  She had been a sufferer for some time, but had been in the 
hospital only a few days where she underwent an operation.

The funeral services were held at Long Branch cemetery Sunday afternoon, Rev. 
J. P. Swann performing the rites.  Mrs. Ray was a young widow about 35 years of 
age, her husband having died a few months ago.  She is the daughter of Mrs. 
Laura Powe.  She leaves one little boy about nine years of age.  Three sisters 
and two brothers also survive her.

We meekly bow to the will of Him who doeth all things well, and consider what 
has been our loss is her eternal gain.  May God comfort the bereaved hearts.
