He had been in declining health for the past year, but was only confined to his bed for the last three weeks. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock in the Cairo Methodist Church, Rev. J. B. Wight, assisted by Revs. J. G. Christian and J. A. Wynne, and W. C. Jones, conducted the funeral rites. Mr. Will Wight, as he was generally known, has been a resident of Cairo since early childhood. He was manager of the old firm of Wight Bros. All during their business career together, when this partnership was dissolved he was made President of the Citizens Bank, one of our leading institutions, which place he held until his death. He held prominence in all the offices of the Georgia Bankers' Association. He was in reality one of South Georgia's most prominent and influential citizens, and was at one time a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Having been reared under Christian influence, he naturally grew up a Christian, and in early childhood united with the Methodist church. Those who knew him best loved him most. He was a man of "clean hands and pure heart." He was a devoted husband, a loving brother, a consecrated Christian, a loyal churchman, and a faithful friend. "Not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord." Upon him others leaned and many people lost a personal friend. He was 52 years of age. We feel that his life was all too short, and yet it could be no more complete. He is survived by his widow, two sons, fourteen and sixteen years of age, one daughter of about eleven years. He also leaves six brothers and three sisters: Messrs. J. B. Wight, K. P. Wight, Thomas Wight, W. L. Wight and Miss Carrie Wight of this city, Mr. G. A. Wight of Atlanta, Mr. Henry Wight of Sanford, Fla., Mrs. Eugene Clower of Trenton, Fla. And Mrs. F. M. Brannon of Gadsden, Ala. His life was adorned with every Christian grace, and those bereaved are sustained by the knowledge that he is today in Heaven.
