Hammett, which occurred in France on Oct. 10th, came as a great shock to his many friends here last Tuesday, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hammett, who reside near Reno, received a telegram announcing their son's death which occurred on the above date. The telegram stated that pneumonia was the cause of his demise. He was in the 303 Signal Battalion Corps and had been in France for about four months, having been called into the service about seven months ago. "Roy" as he was called by his numerous friends here, was about 26 years of age, and was employed by the City at the power plant for several months. He was a young man well liked by everyone and the news of his death will be a shock to everybody. We join the many friends of the bereaved parents in extending condolence.
