V. (Jack) McCartney, died at the home of her parents on 4th St., S. W. here, following an illness of about four months. Her condition had been critical for several days and little hope had been held for her recovery but her untimely passing was nevertheless a sad shock to people, generally, because of the unusual nature of her ailment for a person of her age. She was born in Tallahassee, Feb. 19, 1937 and moved to Cairo with her parents about eight months ago, he father being the popular manager of the Gandy Bros. Market here. She had many friends since coming here. The final rites were at Oakland cemetery in Tallahassee at 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Wilburn S. Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church here, Rev. T. J. Barnett, pastor of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Tallahassee and Forsyth Bros. Funeral Home, Cairo, in charge. Immediate survivors are her parents; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.
