Pyles Committed Suicide Last Monday Victim of Second Attempt to Take Life — Was in Fine Health — Lived Six Miles From Cairo Mr. William T. Pyles, aged 37, a well known Grady county farmer, residing about six miles east of Cairo, committed suicide at his home last Monday morning, April 28th. The cause of his rash act, it is believed, was due mostly to worry and despondency over his business affairs and his past life. This was his second attempt to take his life. A few years ago, he took poison in an effort to end his life but medical aid was secured before the drug took effect. Early Monday morning, about six o'clock, it is said that he took about an average dose of strychnine. Two negro children witnessed him take the first dose. This failing to have the desired effect by seven thirty, he took the bottle which contained the drug and took nearly the remaining contents of the bottle, said to be about 15 grains. The bottle of strychnine originally contained thirty grains and it had been in the house for some time. It is said to have been left there by the family that occupied the house previous to him. Within about forty minutes after he administered the second dose, before medical aid could be secured, he was dead. He took the second dose only after his wife and others about the house had begged him not to do it. It is probable that he was partially under the effects of the first dose when he carelessly poured the second dose in his mouth. He is thought to have planned an act of this sort a day or two previous. He went to extra trouble to get himself shaved Sunday. He was in fine health at the time. The funeral was held at Bold Springs Tuesday morning, the services being conducted by Rev. J. G. Christian, of the Cairo Methodist Church. The deceased is survived by a wife.
