M. Strange, in Little Tired Creek, near the A.C.L. trestle, one mile east of town. He in company with Alton Palmer had gone to the creek for a swim, Palmer diving in first, to be immediately followed by young Strange. After he dived in he was seen to come up twice by his companion and two negro men who were sitting on the trestle. Neither of the three attempted to dive for the young man, as Palmer could not dive sufficiently to rescue his companion, the negroes being either to scared or could not swim. However, the negroes immediately gave the alarm and got Mr. Graham Ward to the scene in a few minutes, he having been only a few hundred feet east of the trestle. Mr. Ward immediately ran to Mr. G. W. Knight's home and phoned for help. Mr. Jim Woolfolk, who was among the first to reach the scene dived for the young man and found him about eight feet from the place he went in. Strange remained in the water about twenty minutes while about thirty minutes hard work was done to bring life back to him after he was pulled from the creek. Everything possible was done to bring the young man back to life, but without avail. It is not known whether he caught cramp in the water of he hurt himself on a stump when he dived. It is thought that possibly he was stunned, as he did not cry out for help as he came up. He was said to have been a good swimmer. The deceased is survived by his father and mother, besides two sisters and two brothers. His body was carried to the home of his parents about eight thirty o'clock about one hour after he was drowned. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
