The Cairo Messenger, Friday, June 13, 1919
During February, 1919, death claimed our beloved Brother Downs.

In early manhood, Bro. Downs, connected himself to the church and lived a 
faithful and consistent member.

He was married to Miss Hattie Lou Davis, and leaves her and several brothers 
and sisters besides a father to mourn his death.

Bro. Downs was a dutiful son and a faithful husband.

We deeply mourn his going away.  We trust our loss is his eternal gain.

We, the church of Pine Level, do thereby resolve:

First, that we bow our hearts and minds to God's will and question not His 
going away for God doeth all things to the good of those that love Him.

Second, that we the Church in the death of Brother Downs have lost a faithful 
member.

Third, that we extend to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy.  We pray 
God's blessings upon each one.

Fourth, that we send a copy of these resolutions to the bereaved family and one 
to the county papers for publication and leave a page in our minute book to 
Bro. Down's memory.
