Dixon, of the Woodland community, were shocked last Monday morning to learn of his sudden death by his own hands at his home about six miles above town. Mr. Dixon had been in ill health for some time, his sickness causing him to lose his mind. He has been demented for the past several weeks. A physician had been attending him, and rendering what medical aid possible, in the hope that he could be cured, as his family did not wish to send him to the state sanitarium in Milledgeville. For the past several weeks, it is said, he had kept several loaded guns in his room and did not want any visitors to see him. At six thirty o'clock Monday morning while sitting on the side of the bed fully dressed, he placed the barrel of a Winchester rifle to his head and while his wife was in the room pleading with him not to kill himself, pulled the trigger, the ball tearing a very large hole in his head and the unfortunate man's brains were blown forward onto a trunk. Death was instantaneous. Mr. Dixon was 43 years of age on September the third of last year and was a member of Woodland Methodist Church, besides being a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge. He is survived by his wife, whom he married about three years ago, a little son, his father and mother, three brothers, and two sisters, besides many relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at five o'clock by Rev. H. P. Stubbs, the remains being laid to rest in the Cairo cemetery with I.O.O.F. honors.
