Hurst, who died the twentieth day of April, 1919, and was laid to rest at Pearce Chapel by his brothers of the I.O.O.F. When spring's earthly flowers were putting forth their buds of blossom in the earthly sunlight and sweeten this life by making it more beautiful, there was one blossom plucked from our earthly garden and carried away by the angels in that eternal garden where he may shine in the pure sunlight of God. In that sunlight he shall never fade but shine throughout eternity. This was our brother, Chancey D. Hurst, a Brother Odd Fellow, always faithful to his lodge and noble and gentle in his dealings with his brother Odd Fellow, and fellow man. He had a smile and a cheerful word for all he met. As long as his health permitted he was faithful to attend the lodge, and often expressed regret when he was not able to attend, although he had been failing for two years he never gave up until one week before the end came. His smile will be seen among us no more. His place in our lodge is vacant, though we must not think of him as dead, he has only gone before where we will perhaps before long follow to be with him and God eternally. May this be the consolation of our lodge and his family and friends to know that when we all reach the other life he will be there to greet us where the ties will bind us closer than ever on earth. Whereas, by the Hand of Divine Providence, Chancey has been removed from our lodge on earth, we wish to testify to his noble character and to extend sympathy to the dear father and sisters who have been made to feel so lonely by his departure. We earnestly commend them for the keeping of Him who sees a reason for all things. Therefore, be it resolved: That in our sorrow for a loved one who has been taken from our membership we find consolation in the belief that all is well with him today. Resolved: That while we deeply sorrow with the loved ones who were bound to our departed brother to share with them the hope of a reunion in that better world where Friendship, Love and Truth can never die, in that Lodge which will never be dismissed. Resolved: Also that a copy of this memorial be sent to the bereaved family under the seal of the lodge, a copy read and entered on our records, and a copy furnished each of our county, weekly papers.
